Shaytan vowed to mislead mankind by attacking them from all directions—front, back, right, and left—as mentioned in Surah Al-A’raf (7:17). From the front, he casts doubts about the Hereafter, making worldly life seem permanent and alluring. From behind, he reminds people of past sins, instilling hopelessness and guilt to prevent repentance. From the right, he corrupts good deeds with pride, showing off, or self-righteousness. From the left, he tempts toward sins, desires, and negligence in religious duties. His goal is to make people ungrateful to Allah and deviate from the straight path. Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) explained that these directions symbolize psychological and spiritual vulnerabilities. Shaytan cannot force anyone, but he whispers and beautifies falsehood to deceive. The believer must seek refuge in Allah, remain conscious of divine guidance, and strengthen faith through remembrance and righteous company. Only those protected by Allah’s mercy and steadfast in taqwa can resist these multidirectional attacks.
